I'm currently rehearsing for a new off-broadway musical called The Adding Machine! I'm thrilled to be in the show--it's a cool, macabre, brechtian "chamber musical" version of the 1923 expressionist play by Elmer Rice. According to the producers, "Grimly comic and heartbreakingly beautiful, Adding Machine tells the story of Mr. Zero, a nameless cog in American business, as he journeys through life, death, and an afterlife romance in the Elysian Fields. After 25 years of exemplary work, Mr. Zero finds that his pencil and paper efforts have been replaced by a mechanical adding machine. In a rage, Mr. Zero decides to exact revenge by murdering his boss. A modern and eclectic score gives passionate and memorable voice to this stylish and stylized production."
I'll be understudying the roles of Mrs. One and Mrs. Two, the two women that comprise the chorus-quartet. Here's a link to some information about The Adding Machine, which will be opening in the West Village at the Minetta Lane Theatre in February.
Unfortunately in order to do this show I had to turn down the role of Madeline True (another saucy lesbian) in Andrew Lippa's cult-hit musical, "The Wild Party" with the Gallery Players in February. It's too bad because it is a great local company and I met some of the fellow performers who are phenomenal, but c'est la vie. You should catch the show anyways! More soon...and have a happy New Year! |
