THE BARBER OF SEVILLE with SAN JOSE OPERA

After begging, screaming, and crying for 3 + years, I've been hired by the fabulous opera company of San Jose to play the role of Bertha (the grumpy old maid) in the Rossini comedy The Barber of Seville.  This opera is full of ROCK STARS. Everyone's really good--it's ridiculous! The show is double cast, so make sure if you're coming to see me you come on my cast's night.

I am performing on the following dates: 11/18, 11/21, 11/30, and 12/3

SOLO CONCERT with Old First Concerts on Decemeber 15th

I've been asked to perform on the Old First Concert Series, and I'm thrilled! It will be a great mix of old and new repetoire and will feature my fabulous mother, Inara Morgenstern, on piano, as well as guest star vocalists Darla Wigginton and Lara Bruckmann from Girlkulture, and local music genius Rob Reich on accordeon and piano.

Here is the great blurb their publicist wrote (heck, I'd come see it!):

CLASSICAL CABARET

Ariela Morgenstern, mezzo-soprano and Inara Morgenstern, piano                               Darla Wigginton and Lara Brockman, vocals; Rob Reich, accordion and piano

Ariela Morgenstern has steadily built a glowing reputation across the spectrum of musical theater genres, from opera to new music to art songs.  Tonight, she brings the golden age of cabaret back to dazzling and enchanting life, in a program that samples, and evokes, such classic and definitive artists as Kurt Weill, Marlene Dietrich, and the Andrews Sisters, with compositions ranging from "Pirate Jenny" and "Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen" to "Someone to Watch Over Me."  A selection of jazz, modern musical, and swing era numbers round out a remarkable musical evening.

The concert will be performed  at the Old First Church (1751 Sacramento St. at Van Ness Ave. in San Francisco) at 8pm on December 15th, 2006. For more information and tickets visit the Old First Concerts website.

I will be singing a set of songs waxing poetic and not-so-poetic on the topic of Nightmares, Witches, and Bitches, including Miss Hanigan's aria (aka "Little Girls" from Annie!), Billy Collin' piece "Flames", Jason Robert Brown's song "Surabaya Santa", "Black Max", and "Hurr Hop Hop Hop!" (only the mezzos out there would understand)

Where? Knuth Hall at SFSU. Where's that? Look here.
